** And as a side note ... it's not that my house actually looks like a Cottage Living house ... there is far too much clutter and not enough cleaning going on over here for that to realistically happen! At least for the next 18 years ... while BOYS inhabit my house!

What Was I Thinking?
I admit. I have a strong aversion to characters. I like their multi-colored beings to stay on the television rather than having them show up - in various forms - all over the house. I don't like characters on clothing ... I don't like characters on shower curtains ... I don't like characters lining the shelves of a bedroom wall ... I'm simply not a fan.
So why, you might ask, is my child ... laying on his bed ... in his Thomas the Train shirt, with Thomas the Train sheets and his Thomas the Train toy? I'd like to think I've grown a bit. Changed my ways. Decided that not every room of the house needs to look like it came out of Cottage Living magazine. But that would be a lie. I succumbed to the primary colored world of 50% polyester/50% cotton Thomas Sheets because ... 1. They can be covered up with a chambray duvet cover and 2 ...
Joshua is learning how to make his bed ... and I figured ... why not learn this tedious, life-long chore with something a little zippier than your boring white sheet! And while it gave my heart a little shock to see them again this morning, Joshua had his bed made in no time and I was a very happy mom!
** And as a side note ... it's not that my house actually looks like a Cottage Living house ... there is far too much clutter and not enough cleaning going on over here for that to realistically happen! At least for the next 18 years ... while BOYS inhabit my house!

I still don't know how to make my bed...maybe I need some Cinderella sheets?
ReplyDeleteYears from now you probably won't need counseling over the Thomas sheets. But yeah, I commend you. I'm in the same boat with the character stuff. My mom doesn't understand why she can't buy them elmo clothing. I said she could bend the rules with pj's!
ReplyDeleteAnd for the record...your house does resemble something out of Cottage Living. You should be proud.
Totally with ya sister. So does that mean I'm in for some Thomas the Train sheets in my future as well. Did you notice Pottery Barn starting to sell Superman? Maybe that makes it all okay...
ReplyDeleteI think I've learned quite well not to even THINK about any characters logos for your children...... but I'm delighted to see you broaden your view point a titch........ way to go, Carrie !!! Now, I just saw some really fun Bob the Builder Tshirts for the boys...........
ReplyDeleteMaking his own bed... hmm that is a new concept that I should try...
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm glad you blog too. I sent you a facebook message. I try to go with the more stylish characters!! :) I started feeling selfish when my son was always touching other kids shirts wishing he could have one.
ReplyDeletenever thought i'd see the day, but i support you 100% as i am also not a fan ... tim's been dying for some spiderman underoos and i just can't allow it! guess my (future) kids don't stand a chance!!
